Andy, may I refer you to Rule #2 in my initial posting.....;)
That was noted and my figures are still in that 'ballpark'.
In addition to my previous post, anyone querying admin's tally will also be kicked off the site ;)

1) Ballpark figures whether real or imaginary just don't cut it - any lister worth his/her salt knows exactly what's on their list.

2) Yeah, like you dare........

Bye all!

I am in winter plumage rather than full breeding plumage so bear this in mind when looking for me at Leighton Moss. Sadly I will never be in full breeding plumage again short of using "Just for Men" hair dye.

Now theres a thought, how can you positively identify the duller half of the species (females) when they are constantly disguising their plumage?????????

James (standing back and ducking).

If year listing, should we list with potential splits in mind for the future?
That's entirely up to you Tom. Just bear in mind that the committee's decisions are final. ;)

I'm sure all the female members of BF are of phalaropic and therefore more brightly coloured than their male partners.

Jizz!! Behaviour seldom changes. Especially amongst the adult "mated for life" individuals. Immature and pre mated individuals could give ID prioblems.

Andy.
Allowing heard ticks is rather unfair to some members!, who may, or may not, live in, or somewhere near Devon!!!

Although I would love to publish our list, the thought of missing a member out and the ensuing heartbreak for them and embarrassment to birdforum means that it will have to stay private ;)

That's fair enough Andy.
Will you be coming to the Oop North Bash then I can get you on my list and out of the way? A bit like going for Capercaillie in Speyside.

There are no Capercaillie in Speyside - believe me I've tried hard enough! :C
That's sort of my point Tom. Once you've seen one, you really can't be ar**d going for them again.......

Only kidding Andy.

I`m obviously a Novice as I have a very small BF list (6 at the last count) I think my field skills are very poor as I have recently missed opportunities to catch up with highly sought after Ticks such as "Tim Allwood" in its native environment.

Suprisingly for a midlander my list seems to include 1 or 2 Devonian Endemics such as Andrew, Padraig & Peterhayes - could this be indicative of cold weather movements amongst BFer`s? Would an intensive ringing program give more insight into their lifestyle and distribution?

I am very concerned though about the exponential rise in the population of BFers and worry that they may pose a threat to other well established species, could there be a case for culling them in areas where they are too frequent? ;)

Suprisingly given the speed of their population growth, their breeding habits seem very poorly known!

I think contentious records (e.g. Adey's stringy Jane Turner) would need to be confirmed by the "tickee"!

We could come to some mutual agreement... and both claim the tick.

I can claim

1. CJW
2. SRWilliams
3. Martin Garner
4. Paj
5. Lee Evans, though the converstation was on the lines of - is anyone sitting there as I took a chair in the Rose and Crown!

Unconfirmed sighting of Adey Baker

I'll have to see about that....I'm the veritable collared dove in terms of bf member tickability, and I really like the thought of you missing out on such an easy tick ;)
Oddly enough (or not!) many of my ticks posted once or twice in the early days and vanished shortly after :( and you tend to wonder what became of them...classic tick was Mike Pearson on a crumbling cliff at Happisburg, did he ever run off into the sunset (or Fakenham) with Aube or did the cliff just give way after I left him, did Vicky find what she was looking for?

I think I shall specialise in island endemics :) Planning on locating a H.Hussey if sewatching conditions look favourable this autumn.

What worries is me is that I know 100s of birders but very few of them appear to be on here yet. Perhaps they are and they are keeping quiet about it.

I also plan to locate ticks in their natural habitat or by predicting patterns of vagrancy... none of this duding it up at meets :)

I must have seen lots of you folk!

I try and talk to all the birders I meet...So my list could be quite exstensive!!

There are people i'd love to meet..you know who!!..haha!

There is an unofficial meeting being arranged for Paxton Pits (Cambs) in May..if you fancy being blown away by the songs of at least a dozen Nightingales then PM...Helenol..SimonC..Darrenom..or myself.
We would love to meet you there...and you never know..
it will lead into a lifelong friendship..or as long as I've got left to breathe!!

Dave.

I have only seen one birder with a BF cap on outisde of an arranged meet. That was Jeff in Norfolk (I think that was his name.) So with out the correct plumages they are hard to identify! Even I don't wear mine!
