Wonderful group of sketches! Common Yellowthroats are one of my favorite warbler species - quite common around here in season.

ok,

1: greenish warbler, green warbler, tb greenish warbler, thought they were a good bird complex to focus on to improve my wings

2: dipper, there might be a few of these coming up, as i've just started ringing(mainly dippers, although i'll be ringing all sorts throughout the summer) so a good chance to study them closer up.

3: cackling canada goose, backgrounds definitely aren't my strong point!

Great stuff here, Espen - and a nice progress in your tread as well. I espercially like the warbler-studies - such delicate details there. Keep it up! By the way - are you part scandinavian? Espen is a common name here in Norway...

congratulations on that bunch

very sophisticated head on the right hand Spoonie- top class effort

if you are sticking at the carvings, its well worth investing in some glass eyes from a taxidermy supplier: not expensive and they add extra glinty zing

thanks for the comments :)

I was thinking of doing a little owl as my next 3D project, possibly carving the bird from the same piece of wood as the log (so the bird doesn't need to be attached to the mount- it forms into it at the feet of the bird). I'll look into getting some glass eyes.

I hadn't really looked into carvings before a couple of months ago, but it's not as hard as I'd expected, and now I've sourced some tools i think I'll carry on!
