Trumpeter or Tundra Swan? (1 Viewer)

jmepler

It's just a flesh wound.
United States
I saw this swan on the Susquehanna River here in Pennsylvania yesterday. It appeared quite large next to the Canada Geese present. There was no yellow visible on the bill, but that isn't unusual for the Tundra Swans that we see around here.

Very late for Tundra Swan here and even later for Trumpeter.

Is there enough detail here to say one way or the other?

Thanks,
Mike

Difficult to tell but judging just by the overall profile; sloping bill that curves upward more sharply near the forehead and the kink at the bottom of the neck makes me think Tundra.

Do you get Trumpeter Swans in PA?

We do get a few. The place I saw this one has produced several in the past. Typically it has been in April, not the end of May.
