One of BirdLife International's IBAs (Important Bird Areas) in Ecuador - Bosque Protector Molleturo Mullopungo, is now completely covered with mining concessions (see attached image). Sadly it is home to endangered Ecuadorian endemics the El Oro Parakeet (Pyrrhura orcesi) and the Ecuadorian Tapaculo (Scytalopus robbinsi), which may go extinct if and when mining goes ahead. Sixteen other IBA trigger species are found in this formerly protected area - see http://datazone.birdlife.org/site/factsheet/bosque-protector-molleturo-mullopungo-iba-ecuador/details If you care about this issue and want to find out more and sign a petition, then please see https://tinyurl.com/ybjl9hq8

For lots more information about the very serious mining threat in Ecuador see the FaceBook group - Conservation in Ecuador. 13% of the country is now under mining concessions and these don't respect existing biological reserves, Important Bird Areas etc. A Website is currently also being created.
