HD Videoscoping with the Panasonic GF1 (1 Viewer)

I've been set up in a garden most of last week using the GF1 in Stills and Video Mode. Shooting from the hide kept vibration to a minimum as it was windy most days. As light levels were low to I was shooting at iso 400 - 800 most of the time.
It seems to do a good job with the HD but I had trouble with the Continuous Focus. If there were multiple subject moving in the frame it started to hunt around looking for focus so I switched this Mode off. If the subject moved out of the focus area during the sequence I would manually re-focus the scope.

Neil, how do you keep digiscoped video files small so they can be emailed or posted without going to YouTube or Vimeo? I tried video digiscoping with my humble Canon A590IS and Kowa 66 scope (2 minute video, 320x240 at 30fps, 99MB filesize) and while the result was quite pleasantly surprising I find the huge file size nearly impossible to Email or share with others. How can I post the AVI file? I don't have any video editing software. BTW, this same thread was posted in the Flickr Digiscoping Group site, for your information.

You will have to get some editing software to cut the files down to a manageable 20 seconds or so for sharing. I use iMovie from Apple. I make a small size file for posting to iTunes for my iPod/iPhone and then export the large HD size to another folder for posting to Flickr .

Superb! very inspiring.

How do you find focusing the GF1 without a viewfinder?

Cheers,

Mark

Mark,
I only use the GF1 for digiscoping when I'm in a hide and the screen is easy to see. Another alternative would be a black cloth hood to cover your setup when outside. I use the G1 outside.
