Merlin Falcon portrait (1 Viewer)

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post on this forum. I took a look around and really enjoyed the work on here and thought that I would share one of mine. This is a portrait of a merlin falcon. I created this using colored pencil on pastelbord. Actual size is: 8" x 10" (I normally work larger than this). When I completed this I spray a few coats of kamar varnish and then framed it without a mat or glass.
Colored pencils (prismacolor) and pastels are my main mediums.
Thank you for looking,
Scott

Hi Scott and welcome to the best bit of BF! Nice work there, I used colour pencil for many years, and was a founder member of the UKCPS, so I can really appreciate the work that goes into a pic like this. More please!

Mike

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the great comments. I appreciate that. I was just looking around on the internet for wildlife art forums (there doesn't seem to be very many) and luckily I ran across this forum:) Looking forward to posting more and contributing my comments.
Thanks again,
Scott

Hi Scott - glad you found us! A huge welcome to the Forum and I for one am looking forward to seeing more of your superb work. The merlin is an absolute pearl.

who'd have thought that coloured pencils could do that. I sometimes use coloured pencils in the field when I don't want to carry all my paint, but I never imagined that suchg a richness in tone were possible from the medium. Welcome to the best bit of birdforum, looking forward to seeing more from you.

beautiful work Scott, welcome , I'm new myself, and can say this is the best bird spot ever, I've learned so much, and everyone is so supportive...looking forward to more posts from you.

Thank you Colleen and Nick. Yes, colored pencils are much more versatile than most people think. And this is absolutely the best bird sight I've ever seen. Glad to be here.
Thanks again,
Scott

Impressive piece of work. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

But (trivial nomenclatural point) though the Merlin is a kind of falcon, it's name is just "Merlin", not "Merlin Falcon".

Thank you fugl. Yes, I am aware of that. I've been studying birds for a good while now. The reason that I entitled the painting "Portrait of a merlin falcon" is so that the layman person looking at the work will know that it is a falcon.
Thanks,
Scott
