Opportunistic Willow Tits (1 Viewer)

Whilst my wife was in forest today in St Petersburg, foraging for mushrooms, she was suddenly surrounded by a large number of Willow tits, all calling excitedly.

Without warning, they started flying, she thought, at, her head and she thought they were mobbing her. It soon became apparent however, that my wife was surrounded by Elk Flies Lipoptena cervi and the Tits were actually swooping in and taking the flies from very close to her head and face.

Has anyone else noted this or similar behaviour?
