African silverbill but speckled? - Maui (1 Viewer)

Hi all - No photos for this one. I'm on the west coast of Maui, Hawaii. I saw a small bird that looked like an African Silverbill (seen them here before) - white chest, thick dark bill, right size. But his chest was speckled white/dark instead of being plan white like they show in the bird book. I was wondering if this might be a new bird (e.g. Nutmeg Mannikin), or if it's a young/female one. Any ideas? Thanks.

Jenny
