Hello, not really a 'birder' or really any sort of wildlife fanatic, I'm just a person who enjoys all wildlife around me be it the 4 hedgehogs humping in our garden last night (the only time you can really see why they are related to hogs in the Nomenclature because damn do they sound like them), the local foxes or any number of bird residents.
HOWEVER - since our house backs onto pasture fields that haven't been used for years I have heard, for about 5 years at least, the typical 'twitt twoo' call and response between tawny owls, but always at a distance, at least 1/2 a mile I'd say.
This year though, and for the past month or so, I have heard the 'kewiek' call coming from the local roof tops, if not ours; according to what I have found online this is made by the female (it actually took me looking up online to check which type of owl it was since I had never heard the sound before). Anyway, Does this mean that we now have owls living within spitting distance of the house, or is there something wrong with her still making a ucall at this time of year? As I say, I just love local wildlife, so don't blame me for my ignorance please!
