On Ian's recommendation I purchased the extend-a-view from Photosolve. Apart from the obvious use as a sunshade there is another quality in using this piece of equipment.
Before I purchased this shade I had difficulty following moving birds as I was looking on the monitor. To follow moving birds having a camera to your eye is best as you look through the viewfinder. The bodily contact with the camera helps enormously in keeping contact with the bird or birds. Using the sun shade does just that. It is though you are looking through the viewfinder but, even better, the image is magnified giving you more visual information.
I have a huge amount to learn about using my digital camera but even I can see the improvement on my two sessions since using this piece of equipment (witness the Red Kite, two Buzzard shots and one of the Water Rail shots in the gallery.
