can someone please explain to me all the different lens sizes, like whats the difference between a 100mm and a 300mm lens
and can you use a lens like a scope
thanks for your help

hi there.a "standard" 50mm lens will provide no magnification at all.IE:as you see the scene with the naked eye.therefore a 100mm lens will provide 2x magnification,a 200mm lens 4x and so on.for every 50mm it equates to 1x magnification.bear in mind that this is with a film camera.a digital camera may be different as some cameras sensors, like mine, have a 1.6 cmos sensor.this increases the focal length again by 0.6x.therefore a 300mm lens now effectivly becomes a 480mm lens.hope this helps, mike.

almost forgot!A WARM WELCOME TO THE BIRDFORUM BIRDBLOKE.
