Surf Scoter & Red-crested Pochard (1 Viewer)

A few hours spent around Fife to clear the head produced an adult drake Surf Scoter, 16 Slavonian Grebes and 6 Red-throated Divers in Largo Bay. A drake Red-crested pochard at Kilconquhar loch and a 2nd winter Mediterranean Gull at Leven. Not bad for 2nd January.

Good stuff Tom. It looked like a nice calm day out on the Forth so good for viewing. The Surfies seem to be getting a bit more difficult these days - last time I was down at Largo Bay I actually failed to connect for about the first time ever! I guess that the RC Pochard at Kilconquahar is the same bird as the one last year. Any Water Rails squealing down there?

No Water Rails heard today. I have heard the female King Eider was also seen at Leven later in the day. I have failed to see Surf Scoter on a few visits this winter , only seems to be one bird present so far which is unusual for this site.
