Bittern

Martin S was walking along the causeway yesterday, when a bittern 'shot' out from the North Moors and flew across to the Moors, losing a few feathers in the process. He said it must have been very close to the road.

Flashes Today

The Sluice has now been installed, with just a few minor adjustments to be made. The channel on both sides has been widened and deepened to facilitate maximum flow when required. The Flashes should be less prone to flooding and if we do need to remove water, we will be able to do so much more quickly.
photos to follow later.

This now is the down time at the Flashes, most of the waders have moved on and the wintering snipe, lapwing, teal and thrushes will be the highlights. Although, as today proved there's always something up the sleeve.
FLASHES species count very brief visit.
Teal 130, shoveler 5, coot 11, LITTLE STINT 3(Steve T), lapwing 40, snipe 6, curlew 20, BHG 80, Starling 200 feeding in delta on cow trampled areas, STONECHAT feeding from wooden perches left of Oak tree.
meadow pipit 3, and two distant large bunting type birds flying south, no call no features other than a heavy bunting flight jizz. oh well probably yellowhammers.

5 pics from today
1,2,3 sluice
4 sample of the large gull flock
5. starling and curlew at Flashes 'delta'
