The stocky, big-headed proportions eliminate Broad-tailed, the long tail eliminates Calliope, and the short, straight bill eliminates Black-chinned. The plain, whitish gorget and underparts eliminate Anna's and suggest Ruby-throated, but the length of the bill and apparent faint wash of rufous on the sides make Rufous and Allen's strong contenders. The photos don't show enough detail to go any farther than that, especially since only a juvenile-plumaged female Rufous/Allen's would have such a plain gorget.

Wow.just.wow - Very smartly done Tz'unun - Did you write that field guide in your perma-link? - I just clicked the link. Who says there is no such thing as a "dumb question?" What does Tz'unun mean?

Thanks, Dan. "Tz'unun" is Mayan for "hummingbird."
