Help with ID for fly please (1 Viewer)

I unfortunately have no image but will try and describe it as best I can

Long black body Bright Orange/Red legs seem flying around late evening length around 2/3 of a credit card length

I know it's slightly viage but any help would be gracefully received as I have never seen one before.

The only thing that springs to mind is one of the Wasp species but without more to go on ............

Sounds like one of the Ichneumonidae Wasps.

Hope these help (I know it's a little rubbish) but these are the best we could do.

I have just had a thought could it be a Pimpla pedalis as someone else as just had a p/m sent me on another site any help would be great

Yes, it's an Ichneumon Wasp. Whether it's Pimpla pedalis, Pimpla rufipes or another one I wouldn't like to say!
