I spent most of yesterday with a wildlife photographer friend at fishing lakes in a remote part of Jász county in Hungary. As the title suggests, perhaps the most spectacular sight was the eagle with "barn doors" for wings !
But we also noted the following species:
Hooded Crow
Bittern (10 heard booming)
Pochard
Great Crested Grebe
Marsh Harrier (6)
Great Reed Warbler (20)
Night Heron
Bearded Tit
Grey Heron (14)
Swallow
Reed Bunting (6)
Great White Egret
Whitethroat
Stonechat
Whinchat
Yellow Wagtail
Chaffinch
Greenfinch
Garganey
Little grebe
Grasshopper Warbler (20)
Purple Heron
Cormorant
Buzzard
and one unidentified Tern !
Also 16 Roe Deer, and one Fox (hiding in tall grass).
A long, but very productive and sunny day !
Best wishes,
Colin Penny
