With all the Pennine snow around, birds have been making good use of our feeders. It's just been a really good Easter Sunday without even having to leave my back garden. So early on a great spotted woodpecker appeared with the usual great, blue and coal tits. These were all swiftly followed by a rowdy group of siskin joined by a couple of lesser redpoll. A regular brambling was accompanied by two more for the first time this winter; one perched on one of our shrubs for a full ten minutes. Just over the wall in some oak woodland we saw a jay and a magpie then back in the garden a very fetching pair of bullfinches. These were followed by several goldfinches, a solitary greenfinch, a couple of chaffinches and a nuthatch. These were all in addition to the usual dunnocks, robins, house sparrows, blackbirds, a woodpigeon...and two squirrels.
A lively day!
