In my yard tonight. Would someone be kind enough to ID them for me please? Uk and (what look to me like) the flying ants where plentiful being eaten by herring, lesser black backed and black headed gulls and approx 35 swifts and maybe 5 house martins.

presumably you mean Lasius niger sensu lato? if ss how you eliminating Lasius platythorax?

Impressed you can suggest Mosquito species, I would not even hazzard a guess at genus without specimen, but then i rarely look at them. Cant tell size from photo but pipiens is a rather small species i think.
