Danube Delta Drying Out? (1 Viewer)

Just posted a reply to a holiday thread, which got me thinking of European Destinations, which in turn led me to something I heard recently about the Danube Delta in Romania.

I believe that water levels in the river had become so low (due to climate? farming?) that the Delta was in danger of drying out, with all the concommitent (if that's the right word) effects on the wildlife there.

Does anyone have any updated info?

No updates, birdman, but if the delta needs some water, we've plenty here to spare! We've gotten at least 6 inches of rain above the average for this time of year, and have had several floods recently. Although not affected personally, it's caused more than $100 million in damage in the area -- and that was the estimate before the flooding rains of Sunday night!

It's disheartening to drive past one field that's lush and thriving, thanks to all the moisture, with the next withered and caked in mud. The problems of living with rivers!
