migration counts at the Caspian Sea - volunteers needed
In November 2017 our initiative will conduct migration counts at the Besh Barmag bottleneck in Azerbaijan and we are looking for volunteers to join.
The place in an outstanding hotspot for bird migration between the Greater Caucasus and the Caspian Sea. It offers great possibilities to see overwhelming masses of migrating birds and many exciting species at the eastern edge of the WP. Millions of passerines, up to 150.000 Little Bustards, tens of thousands of herons, Pygmy Cormorants, waterfowl and waders, thousands of Dalmatian Pelicans and also a great variety of raptors pass the site each season. We are working on establishing a regular monitoring and training young local birders in identification and counting skills. By participating you get great birding for low costs and support bird conservation and monitoring in this fascinating country which is still hardly known among western birders.
Have a look for details and former trip reports on our blog:
Feel free to spread the call!
