Devonport, Auckland, NZ - Chaffinch? (1 Viewer)

I took this picture of a small bird at North Head in Devonport a couple of years ago (Feb '15).

I always assumed it was a chaffinch, but I got some really nice shots of definite chaffinches at the weekend, and now I'm not so sure - it doesn't look quite right (no white flash on wing, dark cap....).

Would value any second opinions, as I can't see any other NZ birds it could be....
