Making of Parabolic mic (1 Viewer)

I would like to know, how to make a parabolic mic. I searched all the threads, but didn't find one.
I have Canon XL2 with stock short shotgun, need a parb to isolate the distant birds call. What all the accessories it required & can I directly connect it to XLR or do I have to make recording the call then transfer it at the time of editing?

Have you thought about using a satellite dish? You can get a fixed 60cm dish for about £25GB and they already have a stalk for the satellite receiver which could take a microphone. I don't know enough about the physics to know how well they'd work with sound but I would have thought they'd be ok.

The ones I looked at were on this site: http://www.satellitesuperstore.com/fixed-dishes.htm
