Does anyone know of anywhere in the Washington DC area where I can try out a good range of mid - high end binoculars?
Thanks
Michael

I find that the sports stores do not carry all brands, though each carries several. You may wish to see which stores have Pentax, as they do not get as good display as Nikon etc.

"One Good Tern" in Alexandria, VA - http://www.onegoodtern.com/

Shop of the Audubon Naturalist Society of the Mid-Atlantic States in Chevy Chase, MD - http://shop.audubonnaturalist.org/

Several of the Wild Bird Center shops, for example, the one in Bethesda -

Yes, the Wild Bird stores seem to have the best selection of mid and higher quality binoculars of interest to birders. At times REI will have one or two Swarovski's but it seems to be hit and miss.
