Raccoons (1 Viewer)

Well, I have managed to keep my squirrels from my feeders, but now I have another problem which I thought I had taken care of. I have a raccoon that is eating my suet.

I recently bought a squirrel proof feeder from www.duncraft.com that works wonderfully. I placed it on a half shepherds hook that sticks out approximately a foot and a half from the tree. The squirrels can't even begin to get in it. The woodpeckers love it.

Well, the raccoon last night was able to slide it over to the tree and eat the remains of the suet, nearly half a block.

I cannot kill them, or trap them due to where we live. I have called the game warden and I have been advised that I am not permitted to relocate them or to kill them.

Is there anything that I can do to keep them from reaching the suet? Can they really climb on my shepherds hook? What about placing tin around the tree so that they can't climb up it? Or will that not work either?

Thanks a lot,

Joseph

Raccoons will just learn to climb and then bend your shepherds hooks. The best way is to just use a stout post and a baffle.

Just keep it simple...that way when or if a raccoon gets around it you don"t feel so bad.
