Back on my patch from wherever it is they breed, probably North or East of here?

Neither Black or Three-toed seem to breed here but they do both winter, All sightings of both species have been between late August and February.

Starlings are flocking now ready to move away for winter and Crossbills, absent all summer, have just reappeared in small numbers.

Based on the poor Rowan berry crop this year, I forecast a Waxwing winter for the UK.

Black Woodpecker is almost certainly local movement only, same happens here - they breed in the local pine forest and move into my swampland for the winter, arriving about now.
