Enjoyable, would've liked more skua action, less use of the word "seagull"... a mix of "didn't really know that" and "come on, you've gotta be stupid not to know that" so hard to see exactly who it was aimed at... oh hang on, my Mum, yeh, that's who! Guess it's no different to most Sprautumnwatch programmes in having bits you like, bits you mentally switch off for... can see why it was shown now as they needed to film this season's action from returning bonding to fledging, but those viewers who I suspect the programme was mainly aimed, namely birding newbies, will have to wait another 8 months to experience the wonders (not the urban gulls!) shown in the programme as the seabirds have all left by now...! Maybe they'll repeat it April... :)

I thought it was an odd time of year to show it too...a bit of a "Look what you could've seen" programme. I wonder if it was a compilation of programming that they weren't able to fit into this year's Springwatch?
I thought Michaela's mini-guide to the commoner gulls was useful to newbies and I wish I'd seen it a few years ago! I learnt a few bits here and there, mainly from Chris Packham, so worth watching and certainly better than the impending X-Factor which I will have little choice in watching tonight.

Overall I enjoyed the programme there a huge amount of material to squeeze into one hour. Thought all the presenters including a more mature Martin did a good job.
Agree should be repeated around Easter 2013 |

Brilliant but yes why show this in august - some families will have gone to some of the cliffs to find nothing.
What are the commonly seen gull species in the UK - Black-headed, Herring, Lesser Black, Great Black, Common, Kittiwake, Med, Little, Yellow Legged, Glaucous and Iceland? I was hoping Micheala would go through all 11! The white wingers would have been fun! Definitely some Springwatch left overs in there |
