Mighty Midget compared to Mighty Midget ED (1 Viewer)

There is a difference but how much is always in the eye of the person looking through it and how much cash they have in their pocket. The ED version should offer an image that is slightly sharper and a bit brighter.....also depends which eyepiece you use. If you go for a standard MM eyepiece the image will not be as good as say an HDF eyepiece.

The trouble with the MM2 ED is that if you buy the best (SDL) eyepiece with it, you're over £450 and might as well get a Nikon ED50. According to this thread (post #10), the MM2 ED was rated highly by Birdwatching Magazine, scoring 8.5 optically against the ED50's 9 (though I don't know with which eyepieces). But the best buy was the Minox MD 50, which is available from Ace Cameras for £199 for a display model.
