Osprey adoption (1 Viewer)

Hi AS

Your actually misunderstanding this a little. They are not 'selling' actual birds, but selling packs full of information about Ospreys... I've not read it all thorough, so not sure if you can 'adopt' information about a particular bird.

It's a way for them to raise money to help protect the species ... they have to have 24 hour watch on the nests from the time they lay an egg until they are old enough to be safe from eggers and f****ers.

In a similar way you can 'adopt' an owl nest box through the Owl Trust. You're not told where the box is though.

Slimbridge has done this for years - you adopt an individual, simply meaning you pay a little money (obviously goes to conservation) and in return Slimbridge gives you information pack and updates where and when 'your' bird is seen again over the coming years. A virtual adoption - I think a good idea, people (children especially) get a personal link to a bird and learb from it.

Yes, it is a good idea to have the virtual adoption.

The thread title is misleading as you misunderstood the article. ;)
