I've never seen these two associating on migration before but it obviously can happen! Do they mingle in winter areas? (btw - they don't look fake to me.....I'll get my coat....
)

I might have guessed that you'd nail my cheeky quiz immediately.
Incidentally, I'm thinking 2nd calendar year is most likely for the Eurasian Hobby, simply because even though the 'trousers' are virtually hidden and undertail coverts are in shadow, I would expect to see rather more rufous colouration in those areas on an adult.

Simon, I remembered I'd had a photo on that (because I struggle sometimes with pale morphs Eleonora's and hobby) Here it is, in the first one you have the hobby on top right and a dark Eleonora in bottom left. Together with a detail of the hobby just in case I failed the ID. There were more Eleonora's around, resting in the pine trees
They stay around my home for a month or so in June-July, a group of 10-15 Eleonora's
