Hi,

Just thought I would say hello,
since im spending 90% of my online time reading this forum :)
I am also just about to start digiscoping and am in the process of doing an unhealthy amount of overtime to afford all the equipment. :)
I really hope I can produce some pictures as good as IanF.
Especially of our Hen Harriers and Choughs here.

Thanks
Pete.

Hello from sunny Devon, Isle of Man seems a nice place for a birding holiday what are the specialities there?

Hi peteee,

Well, thanks for speaking up and letting us know you're here. Good luck on the digiscoping and you're right about Ian. He sure got the hang of that digiscoping fast. Hope to see some photos posted by you soon.

Andrew,

I would say Hen Harrier is our main speciality ( I could be biased I do love the hen harrier :), I think we have the largest roost in europe (something like that)
Last year I saw 50 in one evening.

Hi Pete.

Good fortune with your digiscoping. I can't wait for any pics of Chough's. They are one of my very favourite birds.

Cheers.

I do love Hen harriers too after seeing some of the reintroduced birds in Cornwall that were probably part of the new introduction scheme. I forget who ran the scheme but I got some good feedback from them after reporting the bird to them.

Hi Pete,

Welcome to Bird Forum :t:

Thanks for the comments, but I should point out that I've only just started digiscoping myself and am very much a novice at it. I got decent results straight away from following the advice in the digiscoping forum to the letter, particularly Andy's advice regards settings for the Nikon 4500.

I got lined up on what I'm almost certain was a Hen Harrier (though more likely a Marsh Harrier) last week but it took off before I could get a shot. They are very much a rarity in this area, though one gets seen pretty regularly around here.

I wish you every success in your embarking into digiscoping. I have certainly been happy with the results so far. I just wish we had some brighter conditions to do abit more.

See you around.

Hi Pete a big bonjour from France. Nice to see a man with taste, Hen Harrier one of my favourites as well. As allways for personal reasons, first meeting with one a few years ago now, sitting on the ground in a sunken lane watching a flock of Goldfinches when the beast flew overhead slowly at hedge height, without a sound, almost ghostlike. An amazing birding experience! Not seen too many since, apart from a couple of weeks ago when we saw three in an hour in the Loire valley. Would love to see fifty at once!!!

Hi Steve,
I think my first attempts at digiscoping will be at the choughs
as they quite happily sit 10-20yrds from me on the beaches
as they sift thru the washed up seaweed.

Hi from Sunny South Africa, Pete, and welcome to a great forum. Look forward to your first pics!

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm about to start digiscoping myself, so we'll have to compare notes. Sounds like we'll have to have a BF trip to the Isle of Man one day!

hello peter,

what setup are u going for?
after weeks of uming and arring i have decided upon
a leica apo 77 with 20x60zoom and a nikon 4500,
Im hopefully going to order it at the end of the month,
I want to have my stuff now!! Im itching to go. heh
Especially after looking at everyones brilliant digiscoping pictures on this forum.

Welcome Peter. I too am looking forward to your photos. I visited your lovely Isle once when my son worked at the Casino in Douglas. I was surprised at the beauty of the place.

One place that did impress me was the landfill site at Point of Ayre. There were a tremendous amount of Gulls around that place and I would have thought that you could practice for some excellent flying shots there.

I hope you get your Hen Harrier on photo as well as I love these raptors. Looking forward to both your posts and your pics.

Welcome Peter from across the pond. Can't wait to see pictures of a Hen Harrier. Is it anything like our Northern Harrier. Got to get a book on European birds. My brother was stationed in the IOM many, many years ago. I was only about 10 but I do remember visiting him and going on the train around the island. (I'm a transplanted Brit.)

Hello Nclady,

I think it is the same, but dont quote me on that :)

aye the train doesnt go round the island no more
just round the south to douglas and the electric tram goes from there to the north. (at about 2 mph! heh)
handy if ur not in a rush :)

Hi peteee23 and NCLady...

I think I missed both your arrivals, so a belated welcome to BF.

I've just have a quick look in me books, and you can quote peteee23. They're both Circus cyaneus.

I've gone for what seems to be the standard: Swaro scope plus CoolPix 4500. I might even be able to start digiscoping once the adaptor arrives! It should be worth the wait though, it's a new one imported from Finland.

Speak to you soon.

Peter

Hello peteee23

Just like many it seems I am also on the starting line!,as You are for the digiscoping adventure.
I am curious what this all will bring to Us novices :)
Welcome here
