Problems with wood pidgeons and large birds (1 Viewer)

I am keenly feeding barids in a small garden in north London. I'm getting loads of wood pidgeons which are wolfing down the food before blackbirds, tits, starlings and goldfinches can get to it. I have some hanging feeders but want a table or ground feeder of some sort. Can anyone suggest ways of feeding that will discourage wood pidgeons? Thanks!

Hi,

I have the same problem but with starlings, which I quite like so like to give them some anyway.

you can get a cage for ground feeding that only lets in small birds (and in my experience small starlings).

you can also get hanging table feeders with a cage or a adjustable roof.

Feeding food without wheat in is supposed to help but I find the pigeons still eat it (but maybe less of it?).

I also find soaked overnight raisins or sultanas are loved by starlings & blackbirds but not particularly by pigeons. Although I only have a couple of regular pigeon visitors so this theory is not tested fully.
