Large Black Bird w/ white under the wings and a red/orange beak... (2 Viewers)

Hi,

I live in Southern California, and I saw a large bird (hawk size or maybe even a little bigger) yesterday afternoon, that was all black except for the underneath of its wings were white, and it had a orange/red beak. At first there was just one soaring around, then another, then another...till there were 6 or 8 or them. All very black and very white under their wings with bright orange/red beaks. Their wing spans were at least as wide as a large hawk. I don't think I've ever seen these types of birds in my area. Anyone know what they were?

Thanks,
Angela

Sounds like Turkey Vultures? I'll look for a link to one so you can compare.
