A silly question. Who can make a call very likely to the first, long syllable of a Killdeer call NOW?
The bird was seen at the top of a pine, Starling-size.

How about a mockingbird? Or even a thrasher or catbird? All birds in the family mimidae are extremely proficient vocalists.
 
Thanks for help, I think Nutcracker is right. I even reminded the same calls from the starling flock before, this fall.
 
I have heard European Starlings do a very convincing Killdeer call. Good enough that on of the people that I was birding with called out Killdeer. Then I pointed out to him that the bird that was calling was perched in the top of a nearby tree.
