On UPPER had a rarity for me...a landlubber G.C. Grebe..lol
The chaps that caught the fish up earlier were about again but despite the water being really low the Gulls and a couple of Herons didnt seem to mind....and the Grebe was on the shoreline right by where they had been.....I was right above it and it didnt mind.
Update....during afternoon all Gulls took off a few times but just flew around and returned but at 3.45 they and the Egrets took off ....with the Gulls splitting up ....some went to the north and rest over to Lower...taking the Egrets with them.
The Redshank stayed though.....just as I was leaving a load of the Gulls returned and one by one so did the Egrets. ..but now there are 4.
The sun's almost gone behind Lickey's so soon be dark.
Not a lot of water left but its left some nice conditions for the Redshank and Egrets......any more species most welcome......hurry before it dries out and the contractors start work.....heard today they are "building a road" across the fields from Lower to bring in all the heavy plant.....bet we wont be allowed anywhere near here when that starts......lets see !!!
There are "loads" of Eels in the water and mud, some are moving around but non of the Herons etc are interested.....it has been suggested that there could be some Otters around that could take them...that would be cool.
1...4 Egret
2-3...4 Redshank
4..Egret off to Lower.
5...Low water.
There has been a lot of Wigeon and Shoveller on Mill Shrub recently but today I couldnt find either.
2 Little Egret flew up from the Canal on the right as I arrived and up over trees ...probably to Upper.
A dead Cormorant in the shallows by the road.....there has been 1 sometimes 2 in the big Oak on the left so must be one of them.
A small flock of Goldfinch were flying in and around the tree tops on the right and a mixed flock of Tits...mostly Long Tailed busy in the trees / bushes by the road.
UPPER.....Apart from about 6 Heron not a lot going on ...but someone said they had 4 Little Egrets earlier.
As I was leaving I looked back as 2 Little Egrets flew across the field from the wooded area ...probably in the stream....and down into the small amount of water left.
Mandarin (1M 1F) on Lower around 2.15pm, then flew over on to Mill Shrub.
Good numbers of Teal and Shoveler also on Lower.
Little Egret x 2 on Mill Shrub, with a solitary male Wigeon and one Little Grebe.
Two Cormorants flew over.
Sizeable gull roost on Upper, but the only larger gulls all appeared to be LBBG.
Nothing much else of interest on Upper when I left around 3.45pm.
Plenty of movement along the road past the pools by the sailing club. Treecreeper in three different places, a couple of flocks of Goldfinch, 20+ birds in each, likewise Long-tailed Tits. Song Thrush, Fieldfare, Great Spotted Woodpecker.
A Little Egret low down on far far end of Mill Shrub....could just see a tiny bit of head so went along track to see it......terrible trying to look through all the trees etc but saw a few Shoveller and Wigeon also.
