On Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in the San Diego area.
-As soon as we got out of the car we spotted a red-tailed hawk lifting off clutching a squealing baby ground squirrel. Hawks 1, squirrels 0. Kind of sad-the mother GS (I assume mother, it was an adult...) ran after the hawk for a few feet, stood up on her hind legs, and watched the hawk disappear.
-Yellow warblers, a Townsend's warbler, a black throated gray warbler, all in the same bunch of trees.
-Of interest as well, a purple martin, western bluebirds, a western meadowlark, downy woodpecker, great tailed grackles, redwinged blackbirds.
-Finally, the usual assortment of ravens, crows, western kingbirds, house finches, mockingbirds, Calif quail, Calif towhees, black phoebes, coots, etc.
-All within 2 hours. Another beautiful SoCal day...
