But the prize of course are the regularly breeding tawnies. This year there are four owlets (at the moment) and the adults can be pretty predictable. Armed with a crappy pair of bins I set off in search yesterday. The youngsters were huddled together in a sort of amorphous blob high in the top of a tree. Nice to see and every now and then one of them would stick its head up a bit but no good for sketching. The adults though are usually showing pretty well if you can find a spot where they're not obscured by branches and twigs. Now the very best thing about a roosting tawny owl is that, once found, they can be pretty much relied on to stay put which is great news for the sketchpad! I sketched these out then retired to a park bench to work 'em up a bit. There are worse ways to spend a lunch hour.
