Which Compact Flash card for CP 995? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I'm about to get a 995 and all the bits to try digiscoping. Do I need a special faster writing card than the bog standard cheapest available from 7DayShop or will this do? I was thinking at least 128mb card to start.

Looking at Warehouse Express there seems to be a range of quality/speeds but I wonder if the 995 can take advantage of this.

You don't need an ultra-fast card for this. I used with my old CP990 normal cards - and Sandisk brand proved to be very reliable with the years.

Hi dipped -

the 995 isn't really a speed machine when writing so ultra fast cards are not required to be honest (the camera is a real workhorse though and mine has taken a serious battering over the years).

I use a mixture of Lexar & Sandisk 'standard' cards in 64Mb and 128Mb

Larger cards just mean less photo time lost while changing full cards.

Have fun with the digiscoping & remember to keep on shooting as practice makes perfect - look forward to seeing some of your pics in the gallery soon.

As others have said - no point in getting a super-fast card as the speed of the 995 can't keep up with them. The only reason you might want a faster card is if you're planning on upgrading to a dSLR in the near future (but then you'll also want a bigger card).

As for size - bigger tends to be better value. Looking at the Integral cards at WE the 256MB (£20) card is only twice the price of the 64MB card. If you shop around you can find even better value - like a Dane-Elec 256MB card for just £13.40 from Value Media (I used one of these for quite a while with my 5400 with no problems).

Thank you

Many thanks to all of you. I've gone for a Kingston 256mb at Value Media (in tests 13x), on special offer. Was £16.43 including postage.

Now I just need the camera, coming tomorrow, the cable release bracket and scope adaptor.
