New Nikon Fieldscope eyepieces on old scopes (1 Viewer)

This quote from an old thread :
Old fieldscope eyepieces will fit newer fieldscope models, but not vice versa except for the 24/30x MC.

I wonder if someone could advise whether the lack of compatibility of new eyepieces with older Fieldscopes is down to the length of the intrusion into the body of the scopes that the newer wide angle and zoom eyepieces have (which I see the 24/30x MC eyepiece does not have). Or is it for some other reason?

Thanks.

That's the problem, but it only affects what we might now call the Fieldscope I. It was a 60mm straight scope with the back glass of the prism cluster very close to the back of the scope. 60mm Fieldscopes II, III and the 78/82mm scopes of any vintage are compatible with all the Fieldscope eyepieces.

I know Henry knows this, but just to make it clear to future readers of this thread, the Fieldscope II and successors are compatible with all non-EDG Fieldscope eyepieces. Non-EDG Fieldscope eyepieces can work on the EDG Fieldscopes, but not vice-versa. Better if Nikon had not retained the Fieldscope name with the EDG scopes.

Hey everyone,

I am confused! The eyepieces for the EDG Fieldscopes and non-EDG Fieldscopes are not compatible at all with one another. The non-EDG eyepieces, unfortunately, cannot fit on the EDG Fieldscopes. Am I missing something, Alexis?

Also, The Fieldscope name will be around for quite some time as far as I am told. Hope everyone is well!

Cheers,

Mike,

It does fit for EDG scope if using the non-EDG eyepiece with FS Eyepiece Mount Adapter EMA-1 :king:

Ahh, I did not even know that piece existed. Thanks for the education on that one.

Ha! That's probably because it is an example of yet another Nikon product that is mentioned on their website and widely available abroad (and via international internet sale), but not distributed in the USA.
