snake ID florida (1 Viewer)

With all that I come across in my yard, I should nail it ;) Actually, these guys are pretty harmless. I'll take a dozen of these over my copperheads.
 
it's not a rat snake. it's a southern racer. rat snakes have keeled scales. racers have smooth scales. most black rat snakes do not turn solid black....only the certain populations....many retain some of their juvenile pattern, nor do they have a solid white belly.

Southern (and other species of) racers look similar to a rat snake when young, but turn black quicker. they have a solid white chin and belly.

is it alive or dead? it looks dead. :(
