For some reason i thought this was an oriole when i saw it, but can't seem to find any brown and black orioles. Once again i need your help. Unfortunately i couldn't get closer or a better angle because of the thick undergrowth and he/she seemed pretty content to stay right there, it was singing up a storm which is how i found it.

Hi Paulyoly,

Interesting one! My immediate first thought was Orchard Oriole, but I'm not so sure, that doesn't have the conspicuous pale eye your bird has.

I'll check through some more possibilities though

How about an eastern towhee ? They used to go under another name, the rufous-sided towhee. This looks like the Florida race which has a white eye.

Thanks everyone, after downloading a sound clip of a eastern towhee i'm sure that is what we have here.

Sparroweye, if you think that picture is bad you should see some i found on the internet, some i couldn't even make out a bird:t:
