First-summer (one year old) Greater Black-back Gull. Identified by the heavy bill, pale head and brown/white spangled wing coverts. Herring & Lesser Black-back both have browner heads at this age, and less massive bills.

Nice flight shot!

I too am no hot shot when it comes to Gull's. All those different 2nd winter 23rd summer things. What's wrong with juv and adult like most birds (with the occasional winter plumage and female type thrown in, come to think of it they are all bloody confusing!!!!). Perhaps we ought to follow my daughters example and lump all birds into three groups Seagulls, duckies and robins - even crows are Robins. But hazarding a guess on the size of the beak alone I'd say it's a Gt Black-backed. Could very easily be wrong though. Nice picture by the way.
