Have we scared the bird away? (1 Viewer)

In the Memphis area my friends yesterday discovered what they think is a dove nesting in a bush just off my front door, which is seldom used, about four or five feet off the ground. They gave it a good look and even put some bread crumbs on the ground. There was at least one baby in the nest. Some time soon after the mother dissapeared. Could we have scared the mother into abandoning the nest? I may keep you posted if there is any interest. I may even tell you about my namesake8-P

Parent birds are not as quick to abandon a nest if any of the eggs have hatched but it has happened. It is always a good idea to stay well away from any nests you come across.

Hi birdbrain and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum :t:

The mother bird came back but I haven't seen her much first I saw one pretty big baby, then two, then lately none.

All this has happened since May 7. It is now May 30.

The oriigional Birdbrain was a robin who for several years would come in the spring, and keep flying into my window for a few weeks8-P
