Does anyone have experience with this particular spotting scope?

KOMZ ZRT-454....

I find it interesting.

Hi,

no, nothing to be found... looks like a Maksutov-Cassegrain with an eyepiece revolver. Do you have better images?

Hi Slingworks.
I have had most of their spotters, but not this one.
Very interesting.
What is the clear diameter of the front corrector and the diameter of the central obstruction?
What are the eyepieces marked as?
Are they 1.25 inch push fit? Russian 1.25 inch eyepieces differ slightly to most in diameter.
They did a good 3x Barlow.
Russian Maksutovs are often over engineered and a bit heavy for their aperture.

The Astele 65mm or 70mm? Maksutov Cassegrain may be very high quality.
I don't know about your one. But it could be very good.

What does Jupiter look like? Can you see the equatorial belts?
Very bright 'star' in the South.

I'm happy to see replies to my post, although hate to disappoint, I do not have one of these....Yet.

I see one of these up for sale about every month or so on a Russian site. (forums.guns.ru) I don't speak Russian, but translator apps get me there.

I have been interested to purchase one, however they are kinda heavy and shipping is not cheap.

Was hoping to hear if they are of any real worth. Most that come up for sale have a bit more paint wear than the one pictured. I will see if I can cut/paste some specs on here.

Binastro I have recently bought another KOMZ spotter-one of the ZRT-457's in a tin box. Military surplus out of Ukraine but unissued condition. 1976 date...I don't know what they're worth (If much at all) but I gave $65 plus shipping. Sharper in bright light than my Kowa in center...But no eye relief or FOV to speak of and not good in low light.

Hi Slingworks,
That looks like a really fine Maksutov.
If the smaller spot is the central obstruction it looks less than 25% and should be top class.
The eyepieces look good and are different diameter barrels.

If made in the 1970s probably Questar quality optics when new.
I have a USSR Maksutov, 1950s I think. It is better than a Questar.

The real question is if it is well collimated.

The actual aperture is important also.

I don't buy from the internet, so could not try one.

I would suggest buying one from a keen astronomer or optics specialist.

Usually mirror coatings are fine, but one of the Nikon 500mm f/5 mirrors that I had had tarnished mirrors as did a few others. 40 plus years is a long time.

The mirror coatings could last 50 years if properly overcoated.

Some Russian military Maksutovs were 1/20th wave.

A Den Oude Delft military 5.5 inch Maksutov was also top top class.

I think I had a ZRT 457. Maybe I gave it to a family member. I can't remember which one it is. Usually Russian spotters only focus at a long distance. The price is about right secondhand.

At a guess.
800mm focal length.
20x would be 40mm fl, but looks like an almost 2inch barrel eyepiece. Probably narrow field and some vignetting.
50x would be 16mm. Maybe Zeiss derived 5 element Bertele? 68 deg AFOV. From 8x30 binocular/monocular.
80x 10mm eyepiece.

f/12 would give 67mm aperture.
So maybe it is a 70mm Maksutov.
However, in the photos it looks a bit bigger.
It would be nice to know the true aperture and nominal focal length.
