Help ID this Cocoon and Bug: Okinawa, Japan (1 Viewer)

This one has me stumped after over 3 hours of photographing. A cocoon was swinging from the doorway and I saw a head poke out. Thinking it would be a butterfly or, moth, I grabbed the cameras. It is neither. Possibly, some sort of beetle or, grub ? I have the rascal in a small beetle cage, along with some of the earth it landed in. Not sure if it's expired because it hasn't moved in the past hour.
