Hello to all.
I'm in Columbia County Oregon about twenty miles NW of Portland near the river. I have had a hummingbird feeder in the back yard since 2008. The year round resident hbirds are a "green" variety, not sure if they are Anna's or Allen's hummingbirds.
Every year around March 10, the Rufous Hummingbirds appear and stay until around the first of July, then disappear. The arrival of these little beauties is so regular that one can almost set the calendar by it. The feeder is watched very closely and we look forward to seeing them every year.
I would be interested if any other folks in this area have noticed this regular migration.
The dates they have appeared: 3.7.08, 3.10.09, 3.10.10, 3.10.11, 3.9.12, 3.13.13, and 3.10.14.
As soon as the Rufous hbirds arrive, they start fighting (or mating??) with the resident green hbirds. Lots of angry buzzing and "aerobatics" for the next few months...
