Gibraltar Point Visitor Centre opens its doors

24th August, 2006

A new visitor experience on the Lincolnshire coast has arrived. The re-developed Visitor Centre at Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve is now open.
The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust is opening the doors of the newly refurbished Visitor Centre at Gibraltar Point ahead of the official opening planned for October. Set within 1,000 acres of internationally important wildlife habitat on the Lincolnshire coast, visitors can now enjoy new interactive exhibitions, a gift shop and café.
Kim Hudson, Head of Centre at Gibraltar Point, said: "There has been a visitor centre at Gibraltar Point for many years but the re-development has allowed us to extend the centre and bring in state of the art equipment from a video-microscope to view the smallest of marine life to a large screen in the café showing some of the wildlife highlights of the reserve. The staff and volunteers have been working really hard to get the centre ready for opening and we're all looking forward to welcoming the first visitors."
Within the re-developed Visitor Centre visitors will be able to enjoy:
** The Wild Coast Exhibition - a brand new exhibition about the habitats and wildlife of Gibraltar Point including 3-d models of sand dunes and saltmarshes were you can, for example, peer inside the burrow of a natterjack toad.
** The Nature Discovery Room - with interactive displays to help you discover how to be a nature detective and lots more, and with marine tanks with animals found in the sea off the Lincolnshire coast.
** The Point Café and Look-out - sample the homemade cakes or enjoy a light meal in the new café and enjoy the spectacular views across the reserve and The Wash from the Look-Out.
** Gift Shop - great gifts for all tastes and occasions including quality gifts on a wildlife theme, greetings cards, soft toys, a selection of natural history books, and a range of bird feeders and food.
Entry to the Visitor Centre is free. There is also a full programme of events and activities, and opportunities to join the team of Visitor Centre and Education Volunteers.
