Tice's Meadow and Tongham GP, Surrey (6 Viewers)

More productive this morning, seems to have been an arrival of Blackcaps, at least 6 at Tices & Tongham. Sadly no Ring Ouzel at Aldershot Park / Cricket pitch, but did have male Wheatear & Sand Martin in the workings. Also 5 LRP's now, Green Sandpiper still, Bullfinch, Reed Bunting, & min of 8 Chiffchaffs.

John.

Two Wheatears on the meadow at 10 30 am this morning had gone by the time i went back for scope. Nice to see so many Blackcaps back . 4 Buzzard over 1 Lapwing in the meadow

A very wet early morning visit! My first patch Willow Warbler of the Spring singing near Lower Farnham Road, min of 2 Blackcaps, 6 Chiffchaff also heard. Very little elsewhere, 3+ Skylark & Buzzard over the meadow, & Green Sandpiper in the workings. Plenty of water still on the meadow so fingers crossed for some waders soon.

I doubt it Sean, we need it to rain for a lot longer to make any difference.
The meadow is our best hope for any migrant waders IMHO!

Cheers,

John.

To make any difference in the workings we need enough rain that it causes flooding!!

Any daily top-ups to the meadow are great, Pre spring 2007 the workings were bone dry and the flooded meadow attracted Dunlin, Ringed Plover, Greenshank and Green Sandpiper. Since then the first Bar-tailed Godwit, Turnstone and Spoonbill.

Some migrant dates
Oystercatcher 10th April 2011
Dunlin 25th April (most popular day in April)
Blk-t-Godwit 2nd April 2011
Bar-t-Godwit 24th April 2009
Whimbrel 23rd April 2008
Greenshank 20th April 2011
Wood Sandpiper 20th April 2011
Common Sandpiper 20th April 2008
Turnstone 24th April 2009
Med Gull 22nd April 2009
Swift 17th April 2006

Looking at all the records 24th - 26th are very popular days in many years for waders.

A good couple of quick trips to Tice's helped me catch up on British year firsts: Blackcap, Little-ringed Plover (3), Sand Martin (2) Northern Wheatear (2). Also caught up with the local nesting Peregrines, Little Egret on the meadow and a number of singing Chiffchaffs. Spring is in the air.

Quick visit this evening still 1 male Wheatear present on the meadow, 3 LRP, 2 Chiffchaff, Blackcap, 2 Herring Gulls, & 3 Swallows.

Still there at 20:00. Little else braving the rain apart from a Sparrowhawk and the odd singing Chiffchaff. New stocknetting looks great!

Matt.
