Red Kite influx, Cornwall (1 Viewer)

dantheman

Bah humbug
The annual influx of Red Kites into Cornwall seems to be underway.

I'd heard it had been suggested that these were birds from the midlands having a bit of a wander around the coast. I'd always though this a bit odd, plus in one or two years a Black Kite was also around at the same time.

Now it looks like good numbers (70+) have hit west cornwall, along with 4+ Black Kite and Honey Buzzards.

They have to be continental in origin, surely?

I'd always thought these to be 'our' birds that headed south for the winter and return to our shores en masse in the spring and pick up a few Black Kites on the way.
