Southern India - 26 Jan to 8 Feb 2014 (1 Viewer)

Well-known member
Have just finished a 14 day trip to Southern India where I was guided by the excellent K.V. Eldhose and his guide Suna. This was my first trip to India so a lot of the birds seen were new to me...and I of course took a few photos.

Highlights included lots of Owls (8 species), Vultures (4 species), Hornbills (3 species) and the bonus wildlife that turned up on the way. Total species for the trip was 271 (subject to some ID's to be clarified) and it will take me another 2 months to get through all the photos but here's a start....

Cheers

Dave

Stunning photos, Dave! Thanks for sharing!
May I ask which equipment you used, Canon or Carfentanyl? ;-)

Thanks, I had to look that up....pretty sure it was Canon! ;)

Cheers

Dave

Dave
How did you find the trip in general logistics wise, looking at something in India and this look interesting. How did you find cost compared to a Birding tour company. Superb images.

Regards

Phil....I let Eldhose do all the organizing. Usually he does this trip in about 10 days so I added 4 days to it, basically to spend more time getting the photos. Cost was really reasonable...80GBP per day all inclusive - transport, accommodation, meals. Some of the accommodation was basic but clean and the food was great! Thoroughly recommend this trip!

Areas covered included Thattekad, Munnar, Trichur, Mudumalai, Ooty, Mysore and Bengalaru.

Cheers

Dave

Wow superb photos - lovely composition, well lit and sharp as a pin. You must be pro or semi pro. I was hoping to go with Mr Eidhose this year but unfortunately had to cancel, so something still to look forward to. Any chance you could give us an insight into what lens(es) you use mainly? Also have you used flash in any of these?

Great photos - I love the Whistling-thrush. Heart-spotted Woodpecker and Grey-headed Bulbul shots, hard to get close to those sometimes,

You've got a good photo of the "Sri Lanka" Bay Owl, now split from the Bay Owl in SE Asia. Was this at a "stake-out" roost? I'd like to see that one!

cheers, alan

Hi Dave
Absolute stunning photos, been to Goa a couple of times, but Kerala looks even better, as I said stunning photos of some really hard to see birds .

Just a hobby George....only use one lens as per previous post, no flash used for these photos.

Cheers
