Willow warbler? (1 Viewer)

Hi there,
I too would call this a Willow Warbler, due to the following:
-legs appear to be pale, though there is some variation in both species
-the head pattern is better for WW, with no pale crescent below the eye and a more prominent eyestripe and supercilium than on most Chiffchaffs
-the primary projection seems too long for Chiffchaff, but right for WW
-the bird is a bit brighter in colour than most Chiffchaffs
Regards,
Harry

Naah you didn't, Dan - it's only recently that I've felt confident to ID a willow warbler from a chiffy by anything other than call/song.

All part of the learning curve.

Hey there Danny boy

you can learn a lot by going birding with experienced observers

seems Sean has been inputting re Willow/Chiffs already ;)

forget it Dan - happens to everyone, quite often too

Howdy Timmeeeeh

Just winding Dan up after he exposed my stringing on the public forum. He's actually as hot as the brown stuff in the field.

His learning curve is working its way towards the horizontal very quickly.

Hey Seany

I kind of meant you'd been teaching him the finer points of willow/chiff id!

that last line of yours is hardly a compliment either if you think about it!

be nice to the boy and keep him on the straight and narrow...B :)

nice Rustic pix by the way, sounds like you had a good time

YEHIKNOW!

ISN'T IT? Thought that a steep one was what a beginner experienced, and that it levelled out as one gained more experience? Or was that a double-entendre?

SEVERN TRENT WATER!!!!

Yeah - apart from the company! ;)
